Grado: seaside resort near Gorizia

Those, who during their holidays want to enjoy also splashing about the water and relaxing in the summer sun, are dead right in Grado on the Adriatic coast about 40 kilometers away from Gorizia.

Because of its long, golden sandy beaches the picturesque, slightly Venetian place in the province of Gorizia is also known as “Isola d’Oro”, so “Golden Island”.  At first sight you’ll probably not notice, but Grado isn’t located on a spit of land, but in fact on an island. However, it is separated from the mainland only by a narrow waterway.

The wonderful lagoon in front of the city extends from Fossalon di Grado to the island Anfora and many offshore islands separate it from the open sea. For many years Grado has held the “Blue Flag” for cleanness and water quality due to the clear water that washes around the gently sloping coast and the very flat, well-tended beaches with colorful sunshades, sun loungers and beach bars. Beyond that Grado is the only place on the Adriatic coast, which is entirely south-facing and therefore sunny all day long.

So it isn’t surprising that during the summer months countless keen swimmers and sun worshippers – first of all families with children – decide to visit this place. Most of them arrive at the main beach called Spiaggia Principale, which has very fine sand. In addition, there are the Costa Azzurra and the beach of Pineta, which are also very appealing and connected by a promenade.

Of course on the beaches of Grado you’ll find all the classic disciplines of water sports. Moreover, in Pineta you can go kitesurfing, too, and also fans of golf, beach volleyball and tennis will get their money’s worth. Last but not least there is available a very broad offer for families with children: From entertainment, spacious playgrounds and special premises for baby care to beach libraries, spa water parks, babysitter service and much more – young and old like a beach holiday in Grado in Friuli Venezia Giulia!
