Everybody knows the Tremiti Islands - at least in Italy. With its spectacular nature above and below the crystal clear water, this archipelago is a dream destination for tourists from all over the world.
Geographically and politically the islands belong to the province of Foggia in Apulia, but only from Termoli in Molise they are accessible throughout the whole year. Several times a day a ferry goes to the islands and back.
San Domino, the largest island, is a dream. It has always been uninhabited and thus it offers a unique natural spectacle. A hiking trail that goes around the entire island leads the visitors through lush green countryside and sandy beaches, which invite you to take a bath in wonderful azure water.
It almost seems to be a part of heaven on earth, unless you visit the islands during the high season. Because than it is often extremely crowded. So you wouldn’t see much more than other tourists. But the mild climate allows staying on the islands in spring, too.
At San Nicola there live the few inhabitants of the islands. This island impresses more with its culture. The Benedictine monastery contains impressive ancient art treasures and has an interesting history. If you spend your holidays in Termoli, the Tremiti Islands are a hot tip, especially in spring!
