Noble wines from Brixen

The hilly landscape around Brixen is famous for its wine, the first-class wine cellars and the rustic farm taverns. Due to the mineral earth and the optimal climate with fresh nights and warm days small and big winegrowers are able to produce some very fine wines, in particular white ones.

The wine-growing region Brixen has especially developed in the last 15, 20 years. Time and again there appear new wineries and the well-known ones turn out continuously good wines.

Among the traditional and at the same time most noted winemakers should be mentioned the wine cellar Neustift, which belongs to the monastery of the same name and which is in operation since more than 850 years. The wine cellar Eisacktal in the neighboring town Klausen is recommendable, too.

The most common white wines in Brixen and environs are the fruity and multisided Sylvaner and the refreshing and uncomplicated Müller Thurgau. Moreover you can find also good Gewürztraminer and Kerner, Pinot Grigio and Riesling. Popular red wines are amongst others Lagrein, Vernatsch and Blauburgunder.
