Cheese route of the Dolomites

Of course „Bella Italia“ is full of wine routes, gourmet miles and pleasure events. However, cheese rarely plays an important role, but the Dolomite valleys Fassa, Fiemme and Primiero testify how delicious this choice may be.

The so called “Cheese Route of the Dolomites” weaves through the green mountain landscape of the province Trentino. There more than 70 companies joint forces in order to achieve the aim to revalue naturally pure and high quality dairy products and other niche products of the region. ´

In Cavalese and in Val di Fiemme the production of goat cheese has a quite long tradition. Today the dairy “Caseificio Sociale di Cavalese” primarily produces the popular “Caprino di Cavalese” and other types of fresh cheese such as Dolomiti, Fontal or Valfiemme.

Other delicacies that can be tasted along the cheese route in the Dolomites are for example “Spretz Tsaori” (also called Puzzone di Moena) and “Nostrano di Fassa”, which are produced in Campitello. Local people like to eat these aromatic cheeses together with honey or special sweet-and-sour jams.
